Get Fit With These Summer Activities

Body

Summer is great time to get out and try some new activities. It helps us get in that summer shape we all love, along with some other great benefits.

-It’s a great way to get social and meet new people
-It keeps our mind engaged and helps us grow
-It strengthens different muscles and ligaments
-It gets us out of our comfort zone and creates more confidence

There are great activities happening all over the city and a lot of them are free. Take the time to see what fun activities or new classes are going on near you and pick a few to try. Here are some suggestions to help you enjoy this lovely summer while getting in great shape.

Standup Paddle Boarding

Rent a paddle board from a nearby rental shop or ShareShed it to try this fun activity. It gives you a great workout and is a fun way to spend the day. I recently went at night with a meet up group. We explored the city with boards and paddles that lit up underwater. There is also fun events like standup paddle board yoga, which I’m really looking forward to trying soon.

Try the November Project

The November Project is a fitness movement happening across North America. It’s a free circuit training workout that brings people together to get in shape and get motivated. In Vancouver it takes place at Queen Elizabeth Park every Wednesday at 6:30am. The great energy there will make you push harder and have a blast during the workout.

Join a Meetup for Hiking, Kayaking, Running and More

Meetup is great website that lets you meet other people in the city interested in doing similar activities. It’s a great way to get in shape, meet new people and try some new activities. There are hundreds of meetup groups so you’re bound to find one that suits your interests, and if not create your own. I’ve gone on a few meet up hikes and kayaking trips, which I’ve loved and met some awesome people.

Practice Yoga in the Park

Grab a towel and go to the park! There are lots of cool places all over the city where yoga is taking place.  A really fun one that I stumbled upon is yoga at kits beach. It happens 3 nights a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) from 7-8pm in the park. Bring a towel or mat and enjoy this free yoga class overlooking the ocean. Also look online and see what outdoor yoga sessions are taking place near you or feel free to head out on your own adventure.

Trying new classes and exercises will make you fitter, get you more energized, and help switch up your regular routine. There is tons to choose from with so many different activities and classes happening all over the city.

This week pick a new activity, invite a friend and have fun getting in shape!

With love,

Lucy
