The Importance of Self-Care In Our lives

Body

Over the holidays I got thinking a lot about the importance of self-care. With Daniel in the hospital and all the commotion it was so easy to get swept up in everything going on. The days when I set aside some time for myself made all the difference. It had me showing up better him and had me being my best self. It’s so important and something I’ve been trying to work on. It can be so easy to put everyone else’s needs in front of our own but then we end up not being able to show up our best for them. It’s hard, but I think setting the intention to take care of ourselves is so important and it helps us take better care of others.

Doing self-care for the mind body and soul allows you to show up in your life shinning. There are tons of options, and it’s great to try and incorporate self-care activities that tackle things like nutrition, exercise, spirit, stress and beauty. These are some of my favorite activities, they help me with self-care and leave me feeling rejuvenated and healed.

  • Getting out for some fresh– I love getting the blood moving and I find the fresh air circulating is so revitalizing. Just getting outside, and walking for a block will help me get energized and clear my head.
  • Reading – Taking a break, thinking in new ways and letting my mind focus on something else can help me shift my perspective and unwind.
  • Journaling – I love journaling, it gives me time to reflect, be grateful, and more self-aware.
  • Prayer and Meditation – When I’m stressed or having a tough time this is hard for me to do, since I prefer to shut down or just be super busy so I don’t have to stop, think and just be present. But when I do pray and meditate, even with tons of thoughts trying to pop up and distract me, I end up finding myself more grounded, at peace and comforted.
  • Drinking some tea and having quiet time – I love tea and find such comfort and warmth from sipping on it and watching the city around me. The simple act of sipping on a warm cup of tea and looking out the window at the city, gives me such a feeling of calm and sense of how we’re all connected.
  • Having a bath and putting on a face mask with some optional add-ons like candles, spa music or a bath bomb – This is definitely a go to for me. I love having a hot bath to warm up and relax my body, with a face mask to help me feel beautiful and glowing. I always come out feeling so much better and rejuvenated.
  • Run or yoga – Getting my heart going and creating movement helps me feel free and energized. It helps me release any tension, stress and fuels me with energy for my day.

These activities all help me show up and be my best self. When there is something stressful going on, I make sure I’m trying to incorporate them. But simply just doing more of them on a daily basis help sme take better care of myself so I can show up in my life shinning and glowing.

It can be so easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle, and forget our own needs. I think by setting our intention to self-care we can all benefit and show up better in our own lives.

I think it’s important to sit down and ask ourselves what can we be doing to take care of ourself? What self-care activates help us show up and be our best selves?

  • Make a list of those activities.
    • Some of them can be ones that have no cost and can be done at home – reading your book, meditating, going for a run, having a bath, putting on a face mask, yoga at home, going for a hike or doing your nails.
    • Others can be ones that require going to a facility and cost money– going for a facial, getting your nails done, getting a massage, going to a yoga class or going for a nice meal.
  • Check if you are incorporating them into your daily life.
  • See where you could be adding more of them to your day or week.
  • Schedule them in

Here’s to self-care and helping ourselves shine bright and glow!

With love,

Lucy
