How To Rise Strong When We Feel Discouraged

Mind

Today when I was running, I started thinking about the silver lining of getting discouraged. I’ve been feeling out of sorts lately, but I think it’s been a good thing. It made more aware of how we all go through seasons. Where we can feel like we have it all together, we know where we are going, then one day you look, and you’ve let it slip away. You don’t recognize yourself, you feel lost and alone. But there is a positive to getting lost and feeling discouraged – it makes us focus on our goals and what’s important to us. So how do we get back to where we were or better yet to where we’ve always wanted to go?

I think it comes down to holding ourselves accountable. Really looking at ourselves. Looking at our flaws, our strengths, our dreams and embracing it all. Taking the time to see why we aren’t where we want to be. Looking at where we want to go. Seeing how we can get there. We have a lot of power in knowing what to do, but it’s nothing if we don’t take action. If we made it our goal to take action everyday in the things that matter most to us, then in a week, a month, or a year we would be a new person – a better person.

Every moment we would be a step closer to reaching our potential and letting our true selves shine through. With every step we took, every goal would be more attainable. So why do we have all this knowledge yet we don’t take action? How do we help ourselves put in our best work? How do we rise strong after falling down?

It takes commitment, persistence and determination to make our dreams come true. It means daring greatly, looking failure in the face, and getting stronger from it. It means pushing ourselves, falling down and getting back up. Rising strong and learning from how we fell down. It means putting ourselves out there whole heartedly, taking the risk and being vulnerable.

Some important questions to ask yourself when you fall and you want to start rising strong.

  • Why did you fall?
  • How did it benefit you?
  • How can you get back up?
  • Where are you trying togo?
  • What do you need to do to get there?
  • How can you help others along the way?

Some helpful steps to help you rise up and achieve where you want to go.

  • Focus on what you want to achieve.
  • Once you know what those things are, it’s super helpful to write them down in a journal or on a phone, as something you can bring with you throughout the day to make sure you’re staying on track.
  • Look at the week. Think of goals you need to complete that week to help you on your way to achieving your long term goals and vision. Write down all your goals you are going to get done by the end of the week, be specific, challenge yourself but also make sure they’re attainable.
  • Then create a checklist. Write down an everyday checklist – a list of what you need to do every day. These activities are things that help align you with reaching those goals. They help you show up and be your best self. Some examples include am/pm routine, workout, reading, yoga, etc.
  • Every day review your week goals and check items off as you complete them. Complete your everyday checklist throughout the day and review it often (morning, afternoon, night).

Doing these things will help you focus on your goals, feel in control, and get you that much closer to achieving your dreams. At the end of the week, you will have accomplished a bunch of goals, and you’ll be feeling much better. If someone said in one week if you do all this, you’ll feel happier and more focused, why wouldn’t you try it?

The information and knowledge is there, the steps and solution are in front of us, now it’s up to us to take action. When we fall, it’s up to us to rise strong. The decision is ours, but it helps to have tools along the way to help us rise stronger and quicker than ever.

With love,

Lucy

Reading this reminds me of how life and our emotions are like waves in the ocean, some days they are high and other days they are low. I have had many of both over the coarse of my life and yet through it all one thing remains, faith and perseverance. We must have faith that our dreams and aspirations were placed into our heart for a reason and we must have the perseverance to keep our eyes fixed on those dreams until they become our reality. James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be complete, not lacking in anything.” Be encouraged this day, and may I end this with the words of Brene Brown, “Our wholeness, even our wholeheartedness actually depends on the integration of all of our experiences, including the falls.” xoxo Wendy @womenariseDOTca
